My friend Vikram took a 10-day trip to Thailand last December. Hotels. Flights. Street food. Night markets. Tuk-tuks. The whole thing.
When he came back, I asked him the usual question, Kitna pada? He said ₹85,670 all in. I asked how much forex charges. He looked at me blankly.
Kya hota hai forex charge?
He had used his SBI debit card for everything abroad. Did not know that every swipe was costing him an extra 3.5% plus GST. On ₹85,000, roughly ₹3,500 was quietly eaten by the bank for the privilege of spending his own money in another country.
I showed him the math. He went quiet for a minute.
Matlab mujhe ek card lena chahiye tha jo ye charge nahi leta?
Yes, Vikram. Exactly that. And that card exists — it is called the Scapia Credit Card. It is free. It has been sitting there this whole time.
This is the review of that card.
What Is the Scapia Credit Card?
The Scapia Credit Card is a lifetime-free travel credit card issued by Federal Bank in partnership with the travel fintech Scapia. It offers zero forex markup on international transactions, up to 4% rewards on travel bookings through the Scapia app, and unlimited domestic airport lounge access after meeting the monthly spend requirement.
Scapia Credit Card Overview: Key Features and Benefits
Scapia is a co-branded credit card between Scapia (a travel fintech) and Federal Bank. It launched quietly a few years ago and became India’s most talked about lifetime free travel card almost by accident — because it offered something premium cards charge ₹5,000-10,000 for, completely free.
Zero forex markup. Unlimited domestic lounge access. 20% rewards on travel bookings.
All for ₹0 per year. Forever.
The card has two variants — Visa and RuPay. Most people get both. More on that below.

Scapia Credit Card Rewards Explained: How the Coins System Works
Before going further, the coin math confuses people. Let me break it down once and clearly.
10 Scapia Coins = ₹2 value when redeemed for travel.
Wait — that sounds wrong. Let me show the full calculation.
You earn 10 coins per ₹100 spent (Visa card, regular spend).
5 coins = ₹1 at redemption.
So 10 coins = ₹2.
For every ₹100 spent, you get ₹2 back. That is 2%.
On travel bookings via the Scapia app, you earn 20 coins per ₹100. That is 20 coins at ₹4 each. So 4% back on travel.
How Scapia credit card Coins Work?
Spend ₹100 anywhere → get ₹2 back in travel credit. Spend ₹100 on the Scapia app → get ₹4 back in travel credit. International spend → zero forex, zero coins. You save on fees, not earn rewards.
That is the whole story. No complex conversion needed.
The 2% base rate is genuinely good for a lifetime free card. Most free cards give 0.5% to 1%. This is double that. For zero fee.
What Is Forex Markup on Credit Cards
Back to Vikram.
Most Indian credit cards charge 3.5% forex markup plus 18% GST on that markup. The effective cost on every international transaction is around 4.13%.
On a ₹1,00,000 international trip — that is ₹4,130 in pure fees. Gone. For nothing.
Scapia charges ₹0.
Real exchange rate. No markup. No GST on markup. Nothing.
This is normally a feature you find on cards like IDFC First Wealth or Club Vistara Infinite — cards with annual fees of ₹2,500 to ₹10,000.
Scapia gives it free.
If you travel internationally even once a year and spend ₹50,000, you save ₹2,000 in forex charges alone. The card paid for itself before you even think about rewards.
The catch — and there is one — international transactions earn zero Scapia Coins. You save on fees but earn nothing on rewards. It is a fair trade. But it means your international spending is purely fee-free, not reward-generating.
Lounge Access After February 2026
This is where I need to be honest with you about something most 2026 reviews are quietly glossing over.
On February 27, 2026, Scapia made its first major devaluation.
The lounge access spend requirement was doubled — from ₹10,000 per month to ₹20,000 per month.
Before this change, spending ₹10,000 in a billing cycle unlocked unlimited domestic lounge access for the next month. Achievable for most people.
After this change, you need ₹20,000 per month. Every month.
That is a significant jump.
Here is the honest calculation. If your regular monthly spends — groceries, dining, bills, shopping — naturally cross ₹20,000, lounge access is still essentially free and unlimited. You were going to spend that money anyway.
If your monthly spending is ₹10,070 to ₹15,080, you will probably not hit the threshold consistently. Lounge access becomes hit or miss.
One thing that did improve: Both Visa and RuPay card spends now count together toward the ₹20,000 threshold. Earlier, the two variants had separate requirements. This combined calculation partially softens the blow.
Also removed from milestone calculation in February 2026: utilities, insurance, rent, fuel. These no longer count toward the ₹20,000 target or earn coins.
If you were using monthly electricity, mobile, and insurance bills to hit the threshold and earn coins, that strategy is now dead.
What Actually Changed — February 27, 2026 Full Summary
Since this is the biggest recent change and most reviews have either missed it or buried it at the bottom, I am putting it front and centre.
Benefits Removed in the February 2026 Update
Coins on insurance premiums — gone. Coins on utility bills (electricity, gas, water, broadband, mobile) — gone. Coins on rent payments — gone. These categories also no longer count toward lounge milestone spend
New Lounge Spend Requirement
Lounge access threshold: ₹10,000 → ₹20,000 per month
New benefits added to the Scapia credit card:
- International airport privileges — but only if you book a single international flight of ₹50,000+ via the Scapia app—high bar. Most casual travellers will not hit this.
- 100% cashback on rewards up to ₹2,000 on international flight bookings
Unchanged:
- Zero forex markup — still there
- Unlimited lounge access — still there, just harder to unlock
- 20% coins on Scapia app bookings — still there
- Lifetime free — still there
The devaluation of the Sapia credit card: The card is still India’s best lifetime-free travel card. But it is now clearly built for people who spend ₹20,000+ per month on card — not for light spenders.
The Lounge Experience: What Actually Happens At The Airport
This is something no review tells you because most reviewers have not actually done it.
The Scapia credit card lounge process is app-based. No physical card tap at the lounge gate.
Here is what happens:
You arrive at the airport. You open the Scapia app. The app checks your location. You upload your boarding pass in the app. The app generates a QR code. You show the QR code at the lounge entrance. You walk in.
First time feels slightly complicated. From the second time takes 45 seconds.
One important thing: the app requires location access enabled on your phone. If location is turned off, the QR code will not generate. I have seen people get stuck at the lounge gate because of this. Enable location before you leave for the airport.
Domestic lounge list is good — Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata and 40+ more airports. Check the updated list in the Scapia app before your trip, as it changes.
International lounges — not covered under regular access. Only the new international airport privileges feature, which requires a ₹50,000 single booking.

Who Should Get the Scapia Credit Card
Who Should Get the Card
Rahul flies 2-3 times a month for work. Delhi-Mumbai. Bangalore-Chennai. He was paying ₹1,200 per lounge visit or sitting in the crowded terminal with a ₹400 coffee.
Monthly card spend: ₹30,000+ naturally.
With Scapia, lounge access is available every trip. All free.
He books his flights via the Scapia app — earns 4% back on every flight. On ₹1,50,000 annual flight spend — ₹6,000 in travel rewards.
Annual card fee: ₹0.
This card was literally designed for Rahul. If you are Rahul, apply today.
International Travelers
Priya takes one big international trip per year. Bali, Europe, somewhere. Spends around ₹80,000 on the trip.
Forex saving alone: ₹3,300 (vs standard card at 4.13%).
She does not regularly cross ₹ 20,000 monthly spend, so lounge access is inconsistent for her.
But she still saves ₹3,300 on forex. Zero fee. Zero hassle.
For Priya, the Scotia credit card earns its value purely from forex savings. Apply if you travel internationally, even once a year.
Who Wants Lounge Access
Amit spends ₹8,000-12,000 per month on the card. He wants the lounge benefit because his wife keeps showing him Instagram reels of airport lounges.
Post February 2026 — he will not hit ₹20,000 consistently.
He will unlock the lounge maybe 3-4 months out of 12. The rest of the year, he misses it.
For Amit, the card is still free, so there is no downside to applying. But he should not expect consistent lounge access.
Apply, but keep expectations realistic on the lounge benefit.
Pros And Cons After Reading Everything
Genuinely Good
Zero forex is the real deal. Not a gimmick. Not limited to certain countries. Genuine zero markup on every international transaction in 150+ countries. This alone makes the card worth carrying.
2% base reward rate on a free card is rare. The industry standard for lifetime-free cards is 0.5-1%. Scapia’s 2% is twice as much.
100% coin redemption allowed. Most reward cards cap point usage at 30-50% of the booking value. Scapia lets you pay for your booking entirely with coins. You can fly completely free if you have enough coins.
No-cost EMI on travel. Split large flight or hotel bookings into 3-month instalments with no extra charge. Scapia credits the interest back to your account. Useful for expensive trips.
Gold purchases earn rewards. Most cards exclude jewellery. Scapia does not. Unusual and genuinely useful for Indian families.
Limitations
Coins are redeemable only in the Scapia app. No cashback. No Amazon vouchers. No statement credit. If you stop travelling, your coins become useless. The rewards are travel-locked.
February 2026 devaluation hurt regular users. Doubling the lounge threshold from ₹10,000 to ₹20,000 and removing coins on utilities/insurance — this was a real downgrade. Not catastrophic. But honest reviewers should not pretend it did not happen.
International spends earn zero coins. You save on forex but earn nothing. A minor frustration on a free card. But worth knowing.
Federal Bank’s approval is geography-dependent. Several users report that applications are rejected at the final step because Federal Bank does not serve the location. If your PIN code is in a smaller city, check availability before applying.
Customer service issues. Play Store reviews consistently mention poor support for disputed transactions. This is the card’s most consistent negative feedback. If you have a transaction dispute abroad, be prepared for a slow resolution process.
Should You Get This Scapia Credit Card?
Yes, get it if:
You travel domestically 2+ times per month and naturally spend ₹20,000+ on the card. You travel internationally even once a year. You want a zero-fee backup card for international use. You book flights and hotels regularly and want 4% back on those bookings.
Think twice if:
Your monthly card spend is under ₹15,000, and lounge access is your main reason for it. You need coins that can be redeemed for cash back or bank transfer. You are in a city with limited Federal Bank presence and are worried about approval.
The Process Of Applying for a Scapia Credit Card
Scapia works entirely through its app. No branch visit. No physical paperwork.
Download the Scapia app → tap Apply Now → complete Video KYC → done.
Eligibility for the Scapia credit card
- Age: 21-65
- Indian resident (NRI also eligible)
- Cannot hold another Federal Bank credit card — they have a one-card policy
- CIBIL score: 700+ preferred
The digital process takes 10-15 minutes. Card arrives in 5-7 working days.
One important note: if the app shows you are eligible and lets you proceed but rejects you at the final address step, this is a location issue. Your PIN code may not be serviced. Try again in a few months, as Federal Bank continues to expand its coverage.

My Verdict
I called Vikram last week. Told him about the Scapia credit card. He applied the same evening. Three days later, he texted me a screenshot of a digital card that was approved and ready to use.
Bhai, next trip pe test karunga he said.
I told him not to wait for the next trip. Use it for everything. Every domestic purchase, every online order. Hit the ₹20,000 milestone. Unlock the lounge. Then go to the airport like a different person.
I have been using the Scapia card for four months now. First time I walked into a lounge at Delhi airport — Terminal 2, IndiGo flight to Bangalore — I genuinely felt like I had unlocked something. Coffee. Quiet. AC. Charging point. All free. The family next to me was paying ₹1,200 per head at the same counter.
That feeling does not get old.
Is card ke baare mein mujhe jo cheez sabse zyada pasand hai, ye genuinely free hai. Not conditionally free. Not free-with-catches free. Just free.
And it gives you something that most cards charge ₹5,000-10,000 per year for zero forex charges and unlimited lounge access.
The February 2026 devaluation was real, and I am not going to pretend otherwise. Doubling the lounge spend threshold hurts light users. Removing coins from utilities reduced everyday value. These were genuine downgrades.
Even after the devaluation, the Sapia Credit Card remains India’s best lifetime free travel card. Nothing else at ₹0 comes close to what Scapia offers.
If you travel even occasionally, a credit card deserves a place in your wallet.
The application takes 10 minutes. The card costs nothing. And the next time you swipe abroad, you will not lose ₹4,130 in fees on a ₹1,00,000 trip.
Vikram learned this the hard way. You do not have to.
Is Scapia Credit Card genuinely lifetime free?
Yes. Zero joining fee. Zero annual fee. No minimum spend to maintain free status. Federal Bank and Scapia both confirm this.
What is the coin redemption value?
5 Scapia Coins = ₹1. You earn 10 coins per ₹100 spent on regular purchases — an effective 2% return. 20 coins per ₹100 on Scapia app travel bookings — effective 4% return.
Can I redeem coins as cashback?
No. Coins can only be redeemed for travel bookings on the Scapia app — flights, hotels, buses: no cashback, no vouchers, no bank transfer.
What changed in February 2026?
Lounge access threshold doubled from ₹10,000 to ₹20,000 monthly spend—coins removed on utilities, insurance, and rent. International airport privileges have been added but require a ₹50,000 single-flight booking.
Does zero forex mean I earn coins on international spends?
No. Zero forex means you pay no markup fee. But coins are not earned on international transactions. You save on fees, not earn rewards.
Visa or RuPay — which variant to get?
Get both if possible. Visa works internationally and at most domestic merchants. RuPay works with UPI, and in some places, Visa does not. Both cards now combine for the ₹20,000 lounge milestone.
What cards does Scapia Credit Card compare to?
For zero forex — Amazon Pay ICICI charges 1.99% forex, not zero. For lounge access, most free cards offer 1-2 visits per quarter, not unlimited. For travel rewards, Scapia’s 4% on app bookings beats most lifetime free cards. No single free card matches Scapia across all three simultaneously.
Is Scapia Credit Card good for non-travellers?
Honestly — not the best fit. The 2% reward rate is good, but coins locked to travel redemption mean non-travellers cannot easily use accumulated coins. For non-travellers, Sbi cashback credit card with 5% on all online spends is a better everyday card.
All information verified March 2026. February 27, 2026, devaluation details sourced from official Scapia communications. Card features subject to change — verify latest terms on the Scapia app before applying.
